Momentational Motivation

Momentational Motivation                 I will like to start by saying; I do not think “Momentational” is a word.   However I find it fitting in this instance. Let me give you my definition of this self created term. Momentational Motivation is the motivation of a person for only a certain period of time. Once the moment is gone, so is the motivation. Let me explain why and how this popped into my head.                 We all have clients that start to give up during a workout or pause to take a breather and we jump on them to keep pushing forward.   I am currently working a project where I am helping a young person to take a on a big project (I cannot go into details now, but you will all see very soon what I am talking about).   The client is not use to pushing this hard or doing my kinds of workouts, so the clien...

Improved Failure

Improved Failure Im sure the term "Improved Failure" may sound weird to some people. It is a term I have been using a lot lately with some of my clients. Not only for training reasons but also for life lessons. Many of us tell people to "Fail Forward" and that is exactly what Improved Failure is all about. I recently spoke to a client about it. I think this story is the best way to describe the term.  I have a client with a goal of being able to do 6 pull ups unassisted. On day one i tested her ability to do pull ups with a superband. She was unable to even hold her body steady on the bar. She was rocking back and forth and could not pull herself up. I have been working with her for a week and retested her ability to do a pull up with the superband. She was still not able to do one pull up. In her eyes she was still a failure, however she was able to hold her body steady. I explained to her that even tho she still failed, she had ...

What is Power?

What is POWER? I know many trainers right now are thinking, its the ability to generate some kind of force against an object. But is that real power or is that the type of power that fades with time? Your physical abilities will fade with time. How will you be powerful then? Do you possess physical beauty that can be used to influence people and get what you want? Is that power? What will you do when those looks are gone? How will you gain power then? Are you super witty and have the ability to trick people to get what you want? Is that power? What will you do when your mind goes?  I am not trying to mock anyone or get super deep. The point i want to make is that True Power comes from within. We tend to give people so much power because they can do certain things physically or because they look a certain way. But that is not True Power. That will fade and that person will be left searching for that spot light and wondering where all their power went.   Extern...

Taking the NEXT STEP

Taking the NEXT STEP!! Im sure we have all reached a  point in our lives where we know its time to take that next step, next level, begin the next chapter in our life. It is by far  one of the scariest times for all of us. The point where we realize everything we have ever done has led us to THIS! This is our moment to shine and like Eminem says, " You only get one shot, do not miss your chance blow. Opportunity comes once in a life.".  The one scary thing is, you know after THIS moment, nothing will ever be the same.  Once you cross THIS line, you can not go back.  THIS is it and the pressure is on. They say, "Pressure bust pipes, but It can also make diamonds.", only you can decide what it does to you.  We all get to THIS moment, but few rise to the occasion. Few feel the fear and keep walking forward.  You can either step into greatness or step back into comfort.  Many will choose to step down and let THIS moment pass them by. Once they do that, the rest of t...

Some remedies for Absences.

"The remedy for an absence is a presence." -Gary Zukav      We often talk about what needs to be excluded from life. For example, a bad job, bad relationship, fake friends, etc. We also lose things in life as well, such as loved ones, pets, close friends. These situations leave us scarred in one way or another.  Both cases deal with creating some void or absence in our life. This blog deals with ways we tend to deal with these losses and how we can do a better job at filling those absences.       The first loss I would like to discuss is the loss of a significant other. We see it all the time, people stay in bad relationships because they fear being alone. They don't know how to fill the space once that person is gone. The abuse they deal with in the relationship is better to them than being alone. Many people in this situation tend to turn towards partying and hooking up as a way to fill the emptiness of being alone.  Times like these are when It's perfect  to be...

How to Balance the Beach Body you WANT with the Movement you NEED!

How to Balance the Beach Body you WANT, with the Movement you NEED! Now that the weather is getting sunny everyone is rushing to the gym to try and get Beach Body Ready. When you think of beach bodies, you think of the term “Mirror Muscles”. These are all the muscles that look good in the mirror. Now, i would like to say that I dont think its a bad thing to train these muscles. ALL of us at some level care how we look without clothes on. There is not a person on the planet that has not flexed in front of the bathroom mirror or did a few modeling poses before a shower, haha. The issue arises when you Overtrain these muscles and it causes muscular imbalances that lead to pain or injury.  I for one am guilty of this form of training. In my earlier years all I did was workouts right out of muscle and fitness. I really thought that I could look like those guys by drinking protein shakes and lifting (boy was I wrong). However, it was a great learning experience. I am also gui...
